foodie scavenger hunt

Alert the group chat. Assemble the teams.

Consider this your formal invitation to explore the High Desert Food Trail in a way that's never been done. If you're unfamiliar with the HDFT, it's a regional map of farms and local restaurants and shops that are committed to sourcing locally.

Travel Oregon founded the Oregon Food Trails program, but HDFFA (High Desert Food & Farm Alliance) manages it for the Central Oregon chapter. The trail is self-guided and has no real parameters around how to visit other than showcasing the different places you can visit.

⭐️ But on Saturday, September 19, a foodie scavenger hunt, curated by Ultimate Scavenger, invites you to explore some of Central Oregon's farm-to-table eateries and shops—and even some of the farms themselves.

Here’s how it works! You and your team spend the afternoon traveling through Sisters and Tumalo across local farms and food businesses. At each stop, there’s an activity to complete and a clue to solve. Finish the hunt, and you’re in the running for some very cool prizes 😎

Four hours of eating and driving backroads, all for the chance at winning? Sign me up! Now, this will take place on the cusp of fall (and we all know how unpredictable the weather can be).

A few tips before heading out:
🚗 Pick a driver who doesn’t mind gravel. This is farm country!
🧊 Bring a cooler or cold bag. I have never once made it down the Food Trail empty-handed.
🧢 September in the High Desert is 45 degrees in the morning and 80 degrees by 2 p.m. Layers.
👟 Closed-toe shoes because... farms.
📱 Keep your phone charged! You’ll want the photos, and you’ll probably need it for clues.

Tickets are now on sale for the High Desert Food Trail Scavenger Hunt. All ages are welcome! $12 per person; the event kicks off at Tumalo Coffee House. 12-4 pm.

Take farm-to-table to the next step... with a forest-to-table feast. Autumn is one of the best times of the year to forage for mushrooms in Oregon, and the finds are often magical (no, not that kind of magic mushroom). I'm talking about forest-grown culinary mushrooms, ready to be foraged. Wild Rye at Brasada Ranch will host its annual feast, The Foraged Dinner + wine pairing, on October 24 at 6 pm. The banquet and menu is curated by Chef Karl Holl who hunts and picks the mushrooms by hand,...
